     Vivienne Llewellyn OAM (1941-2012)

Vivienne Llewellyn, the former director of Centacare (2005-2008) passed away on Tuesday, 12th June. She died peacefully at the Mercy Hospice in Newcastle at the age of 71.

She showed an admirable sense of equanimity till the end having fought cancer for over three years. What she achieved in her life is immense. And what she showed in her dying is nothing short of the epitome of faith and courage. Her spirituality was deep and solid and she was ready to meet her God.

On the day before her death she was officially conferred OAM. It was a befitting acknowledgement of her immense contribution to the community and welfare sector spanning over more than three decades in many roles. Before taking up the directorship of Centacare Bathurst, she served in the same role at Centacare Newcastle and Centacare Townsville. She was the Chairperson, St Joseph’s Boarding College, Perthville, 2007-2008 during a time of significant transition for the Boarding. She held a number of distinguished positions in her career including Mission Services Manager- St John of God Family Services, Trustee- Catholic Healthcare, Chairperson- Social Welfare Advisory Committee NSW Catholic Employment Relations Commission, and Director and Chairperson- Association of Children’s Welfare Agencies.

Centacare is indebted to Vivienne. She took the role of directorship at a time of significant transition for both Centacare and the welfare sector. Vivienne strengthened the organisation with her wealth of experience and acumen.

We solicit your prayers for her grieving family.

Vivienne’s funeral will be held next Friday, 22 June at 9:30am at Sacred Heart Cathedral, 841 Hunter Street, Newcastle West 2302.
